Breathtaking Digital Paintings by Odwin Rensen

In this post I am presenting some beautibul digital paintings by Odwin Rensen. He is a 38 year old digital artist from Netherlands. Digital Painting is one of his passions where his specialty lies in making digital portrait paintings in the style and spirit of the old masters.

His technique is based on the use of a photo. With Corel Painter X, Photoshop and my Wacom tablet he paint the photo into a tradional looking oil painting. It works much like a traditional oil painting working in layer up on layer. Hope you all will enjoy this post.

One man's junk is another man's art" , this old saying is made true by Edouard Martinet an extraordinary artist form Le Mans, France. He transforms everyday objects found in flea-markets and car boot sales into works of art. He crafts astoundingly detailed and life-like sculptures of fish, birds and insects from pieces of discarded junk -- but without any soldering.

Camouflaged Toads Optical Illusion

National Geographic is proud owner of some of the best photos in the world. Here and then a photo jumps out, containing an interesting effect which sometimes can be seen as optical illusion. Just check out thisNational Geographic tag, and you’ll be amazed how many illusions on this site are from NG. Anyway, today’s optical illusion was submitted by Urban Ambrozic and Grégory Plantard. We get many of “camouflage” illusions, but most of them don’t make it to the front page of Moillusions. This one however, took my attention. First I only saw one campuflaged toad – thought : “hm, its ok”, but after few moments I was able to spot the second and third one! How many of them are there?! Those three leaf-litter toads were collected within yards of each other, and its amazing how they almost disappear on a forest floor in Panama. For them to stay alive in the tropics (where nearly everything is food for something else), often calls for such trickery to fool a predator’s eye. Below the photo, you may see a gallery of few similar photos (by NG as well). Can you spot an insect hiding in each of them? Those little animals could very well put Liu Bolin and Emma Hack to a shame. Amazing!

Cut Chair Optical Illusion

The art installation you’re about to see was designed by Peter Bristol, a lead product designer at Seattle-based product development consultancy Carbon Design Group. As author described it in his own words, “The Cut Chair” provides a stable place to sit, but creates an optical illusion that tells you otherwise. It usually takes few moments before people conclude how this trick works, yet the solution is pretty straight-forward. A plate concealed by a thick carpet allows a robust cantilevered seat. Three well placed leg “stumps” and the chair looks as though it has just been magically sliced apart. 3D Illusion in Stockholm’s Square

I’m little bit disappointed how none of you responded to my question regarding loading speed of our galleries. This also tells me how most of you don’t give a crap about what I say, as long as the illusions keep coming. I also noticed how I end up with pretty dumb headlines, when my attention is drawn away from illusions ;D

So let’s see if I can fix this with today’s post! It appears the Swedish artist Erik Johansson has joined thepavement chalk-masters wagon with his incredible optical illusion in the center of Stockholm. It tricks you into believing that the giant hole has opened up in the middle of the main city square. The illusion measures 32 by 18 metres and is located in Sergels torg square. Dali’s Anamorphic Artworks

I’m a big fan of Dali, but not because of his classic artworks that can be seen on dorm room posters in college campuses across America. No, what I admire about Salvador Dali was his ability to see things in an entirely different manner from those around him. All of his paintings reflect this brilliance, but none show just how fantastic his mind worked better than those that incorporate anamorphism.

Anamorphic art requires the viewer look at the piece from a specific viewpoint or using a special tool in order to actually see the artwork in its proper display form. By the end of his career, Dali was a master of this skill, creating paintings like the one above that required cylindrical mirrors to see the work in its true form, and by painting spectroscopic images that required 3D glasses to take in the full effect.

Flora Art Optical Illusion

Tried to publish a sample post via my new iPad today, but decided against it when I learned it’s too complicated. WordPress app works fine, yet Photoshop for iPad lacks image resizing tool. Shouldn’t this be the most used part of the program?! Anyway, let me show you some new stuff from Fred Eerdekens. Remember, he was the guy that wrote those funny letters on walls, using nothing but bent wire and light source to cast shadows. This one’s very similar, only wires have been replaced by specially trimmed trees! Can you see the illusion by yourself? What does it say? BTW, fun fact of the day: I bought my self a bonsaitree few days ago; but what I wasn’t aware is that “bonsai” is just a term for practice of keeping trees small? Were you aware of this? It appears you can trim almost any young tree and make it bonsai… Ie. small oak can be bonsai, just as small cherry tree can be bonsai too!

Caught in The (Right) Moment Collection

So, Yahoo still hasn’t updated it’s widget database with our updated widget, but from my experience this should happen some time tomorrow, or the next day at worst. Then you’ll be able to get working version (5.0) of the “Optical Illusion of The Day” widget for your desktops. If I forgot to tell you about my exam, I have successfully passed it! One down, 10 to go. The illusion part for today should be the most exciting one – I have added over 20 optical illusions that picture people (or objects) caught just in the right moment. Someinvolve sports, Some are political, some random, but all are funny and amusing. I believe this post will make you love this site even more, specially since there are so many rare photos you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Can’t wait to hear which one is your favorite!
